First two methods didn't help, but I did manage to download attachments after I shut down Windows Defender. I'm in the same boat - attachments download immediately with Windows Defender disabled, but instead after re-enabling it they again take anywhere from minutes. On a brand new laptop with a fresh install of Windows I've been trawling the forums for answers to these problems and others and what is apparent is that the help supplied by Microsoft support engineers is lazy and predictable.

People are in these forums after they have tried trouble shooters etc. It is unlikely that we have the same corrupted files and that the corrupted files yield the same results unless deliberately corrupted. I am having the same issue. Brand new computer, set up my Yahoo mail successfully.

Things can go wrong when the email is downloaded on your device. The best way of finding out whether this is indeed the case, is to go to the Gmail website to find out if the file attachments are corrupt there as well, or if they are not. So, simply open Gmail in your web browser of choice, sign in to your Google account if you are not signed in already, and either browse the list of emails, or use the search to find the particular email you are looking for.

Gmail displays all image attachments, and some other formats such as documents, as inline previews.
